French officials have consented to begin stopping small boats in the Channel, following an extended period of pressure from the UK.

This policy shift follows the Prime Minister wrote to the French leader asking him to support the plan and saying there presently "have no effective preventive measure" in the Channel.

French security forces have been authorized to stop the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their migrants, according to authoritative statements.

French authorities have infrequently intervened to prevent the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is viewed as too great a risk to both officers and individuals.

"It is essential that we deploy these methods this month... We have zero effective deterrent in the Channel."

Now, a French naval police representative says officers will start intervening at sea, with the objective of safeguarding human life.

Significantly, the official excluded the use of entanglement devices to stop boats, which had previously been reported as a potential technique to disable the propellers of the boats.

The decision to take action at all is a major advancement, following a short-lived shift towards a more aggressive approach this summer, which dropped off when the previous Interior Minister departed from government.

This was demonstrated in July, preceding a summit between the UK leader and French president, when authorities were witnessed wading into the sea to damage the sides of a vessel.

Currently French authorities will once more be permitted to intercept boats before they pick up asylum-seeking passengers from the coastal areas of France's north coast, although it's uncertain how the vessels will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are currently postponing the start of interceptions and the human trafficking gangs will be seeking ways to adapt to avoid interception, as they have frequently done in the past.

UK immigration authorities and Downing Street have been contacted for comment.
